Sue Bayre
Sue is an artist of 20 years experience, foremost a pastellist. Her work takes a new perspective on traditional subjects and her focus brings out the detail and reflections of items from cars to cups. All are lovingly and expertly recreated and often her perspective gives the subject a new life and lifts an often discarded or neglected item to new meaning.
"I love the ease and spontaneity of applying pastel as well as the extremely tactile experience which must hark back to my early experiences of finger painting. In my paintings, pastel is applied in layers, sometimes rubbed in, always added to, often dragged across the surface and regularly crossed hatch into the layers below. The different types of pastel allow me to make hard edges as well as the softest of smudges. The incredible range of colours available is jewel like. My subject matter is generally small still life or big still life as I like to call my auto art. I am a colourist, I love patterns and reflective surfaces and my subjects lend themselves to works which have strong design elements.  I am proud to be a member of the Nell Street Painters and of AGRA (Australian Guild of Realist Artists)" Sue Bayre
