Ilma Duncan

Ilma was born in Tasmania in the early 1920’s. The Tasmanian family are all artists. She was
educated at Korowa CEGS, Melbourne. In her early years Ilma was a secondary teacher in
the fields of Physical Education and Art. Her first real Watercolour teacher was Eric Britten.
Throughout all her years in the “Art World”, Ilma has worked in numerous mediums, including
Bronze and Clay Sculpture, Oil Painting and Silver smithing.
Ilma has concentrated on
Watercolours since the late eighties and is a member of the Wildlife Art Society of Australasia,
Plenty Valley Arts, Victorian Artists’ Society, the Watercolour Society of Victoria and
Australian Guild of Realist Artists.
Over many years Ilma has won many prizes and been Highly Commended numerous times.
Some of her more recent awards are:

The Caltex Award
1990  The Wildlife Art Society of Australasia’s  best novice watercolour award.
1997  The Wangaratta Best Watercolour Award
1998  Excellence Award, “All Japan International Art Show” 
1998  Two awards at the prestigious Altona Art Show
1999  Best Water colour prize, Portland Art Show
2000  Won the Floral Art section. “All Japan International Art Show” 
2000    Best Watercolour Kalkallo
2005 Sir Edmund Herring Memorial Award, most outstanding watercolour
Ilma has held extremely successful solo exhibitions at the “Old Post Office Seymour". Her paintings
are in private and public collections in Japan, Canada, USA, IK, Greece & Turkey.
Ilma is a big supporter of the various service clubs and CFA’s in the area and has been guest
artists for all on numerous occasions. She
still teaches Watercolour painting on a weekly basis.
